  • The History

The beginnings of CTEA started with a young lady called Lydia Berkey. She grew up in Melfort,
Saskatchewan, not knowing that is young lady would have an impact on the Pentecostal
message in North America. As far as we know her family relocated to Wetaskiwin, Alberta. As
she grew up and become a young woman, she decided to travel which took her into
Washington State, USA. From there God groomed her and developed her into a strong
evangelistic lady where signs and wonders were taking place. During this time, she met up with
a man and fell in love, and got married. Unfortunately, back in that time, her husband was not a
man to seek God in a deep and compassionate way that Lydia desired. This caused the marriage
to come apart and fall into legal separation, later finding that her husband passed away due to
    alcoholism.

Lydia met up with a lady, Inga Kvelstad, who had the same desire and passion to see the work
of Lord. Those two became a formable ministry throughout the United States and Canada.
During Lydia’s ministry she received ordination through the ministry of Aimee Elizabeth Semple
McPherson. Lydia received her degree through Oral Roberts University. Dr. Lydia established
many churches throughout the United States. She also ministered and worked with other well-
known faith evangelists and healers, also sat under the ministry of Smith Wigglesworth.

In 1965, Dr. Lydia came to Canada to establish a ministry called Calvary Gospel Temple along
with seeing a church plant in Edmonton now called Edmonton Gospel Temple. At that time
under the pastoral leadership of Thomas Crane, she returned back to Calgary to turn over the
ministry to Dr. Norman Holmes. She heard of Norman’s strong anointing and prophecy ministry
with the signs following. Dr. Norman was then installed as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Gospel
    Temple.

  • In 1971, Dr. Holmes established a Canadian branch of Calvary Temple Educational Association
(CTEA) while Dr. Lydia proceeded to establish the branches in California and Oklahoma. She
continued her ministry and evangelism until her passing. Dr. Holmes continued the ministry in
Canada which reached into the First Nations across Canada, including a radio broadcast called
the Bannock Gospel Hour. He served as the president in the National Native Bible College in
Deseronto, Ontario. As the president of CTEA, he worked and assisted planting churches for the
Church of God of Cleveland, Tennessee in Canada. He was active with the Independent
Assemblies of God in Canada and ministered in various places throughout North America.

In 1973, Dr. Holmes instituted Calgary Bible Institute (CBI) in Calgary, Alberta. During his
presidency the institute remained in effect till 1984, as which time closed its doors. There are
many of the alumni who are in active ministry or who have been in active ministry. Dr. Holmes
continued planting churches and developing leadership until his passing in 2016. Before his
passing, Dr. Holmes turned over the presidency of both the CTEA and CBI to Dr. Randall
    Harriman.

As of now in 2022, CTEA is celebrating 52 years as a registered organization in Alberta. CTEA
through the leadership of Dr. Harriman cling to the founding truths of the first president of Dr.
Berkey in the five-fold ministry. Through Dr. Harriman’s leadership we are now seeing churches
being established in Canada and the United States, but also world-wide.

In September, 2022, CTEA will be activating the bible college back into existence, registered as
Canadian Biblical Institute (CBI) under the leadership of President Dr. Sharon Harriman. We will
now be offering a three-year Biblical Program and a Biblical Degree Program. CTEA has seen an
explosion of oversea missions in the last three years with churches in Nepal, India, and Ivory
    Coast.
